*happy love for chinese new year*

hello necklace, love necklace, large letter necklace, huge necklace, gold necklace, red, chinese new year, year of the horse

GONG HAY FAT CHOY!  that’s cantonese for HAPPY NEW YEAR!  today starts the new lunar year - the year of the horse :)  i’m not ethnically chinese, but throughout my long kung fu career, i tend to celebrate many of the customs that come along with the territory ^_^  for example, wearing red & gold…always good luck colors for the new year.  also, wearing new things.  this sweater is old, but both the skirt & necklaces are new.  very “happy” that these awesomely huge letter necklaces just arrived from china too (before the whole country shuts down for the holiday), so hey, double dose of good luck!  i just “love” them!  here are some other observances i tend to do (or not do) for chinese new year ^_^  many happy tidings for health, happiness & prosperity in 2014!

wearing: thrifted red sweater || express tan A-line skirt || happy & love necklaces (via ebay) || simply vera nude fishnet stockings || nine west knee high leather boots (super old - via pennsylvania consignment shop)

hello necklace, love necklace, large letter necklace, huge necklace, gold necklace, red, chinese new year, year of the horse

*the name’s the game*

name necklace, name plate, name cursive, gold name necklace, cartouche, hieroglyphics

my name 2 ways - in cursive (à la that famous carrie bradshaw style) & an egyptian hieroglyhpics cartouche. could have been 3 if i also wore my hawaiian name jewelry…awww shucks :)

*wearing rodarte gold in NYC*

i’m traveling again & it’s crazy how i’ve already shifted from one phase of my trip to another.  i was in NYC for a crazy weekend filled with kung fu, fun, friends…and of course, FOOD!  now, i’m in florida visiting my 2-week old niece & enjoying a lot of leisure fun time with my family.  still taking a lot of outfit photos…but only of my cutie patootie niece!  hahaha!  so, here’s an “old” outfit of me from just a few days ago :)

wearing: rodarte x target gold lace cardigan & tulle dress || faux leather & acrylic belt || target tights || christian siriano x payless booties

*my indian valentine*

last year for valentine’s day, i went for that more va-va-voom bold look in red chiffon & black leather.  this year, i wanted to go more demure & had some pink pieces all set aside.  unfortunately, the perfect pink outfit i had envisioned (to put it in project runway terms) did not translate well once i had put it on.  hence this last minute outfit which i must say, would have been more appropriate for the indian wedding i attended, but still ended up looking pretty good!

even managed to get outside just in time to catch that last glimpse of “golden hour” sun…to perfectly match the sunset colors of my “jacket.”  i say jacket because this was a dress i got from ebay, but did not fit.  luckily, there was a seam that ran right down the middle that with just a quick zip of a seam ripper, converted a too tight dress into a wearable & more versatile jacket :)

wearing: vintage indian jacket/dress from ebay || rodarte x target nude tulle dress || kohl’s nude fishnets || madeline girl platforms

accessories:  engagement ring & substitute band || opal stackable ring || hawaiian style jewelry gold bangles with enameled name personalization || vintage gold tassel necklace (gifted from gma) || LF stores rhinestone snake ring

off now to a late dinner with the ol’ hubby :)  however you celebrated valentine’s day, hope it was lovely!

*happy new year from times square!*

can’t believe it’s a week into the new year & this is my first post!  you know how it is after a vacation though, so hard to get back into a routine :(  over the holidays, i spent one week in california, one night in philadelphia & then 2 days in new york!  i won’t bore you with the specific details, but my husband surprised me with doing times square for new year’s eve!  i’ve never done that before!  he even coordinated to have 2 friends & my brother celebrate the new year with us!  that was the biggest & best surprise EVER!

needless to say, since it was a surprise, i didn’t have any new year’s eve type clothing to wear :(  luckily, before leaving PA, quick stops at TJ maxx & kohl’s saved me!  i actually really love this dress i found.  mostly gold, but had dark silver threads running through, so in different lights, looked either white gold or gunmetal silver.  it was a great flowy length too, almost grecian in design.  all that extra fabric kept me warm & i definitely felt more comfortable than i would have in a shorter, clingier dress.  i was extra pleased as well with how my friend from portland, oregon & i were surreptitiously & unknowningly coordinated in our outfits…me in white/gold & her in black/sparkly silver!  it was the PERFECT start to 2013 ^_^

wearing: elie tahari metallic dress (TJ maxx) || winter kate silk kimono jacket || ann taylor & vintage necklaces || dana buchman heels (kohl’s)

*wearing green on christmas day*

wearing: h&m dress || rodarte/target asian print t-shirt || vintage tassel pendant || green bead necklace & bracelet (from naomi) || JC wedges

hmmm…it’s not that i have an aversion to the usual christmas red, but it seems like i’m wearing green again…just like last year :) hahaha!  complete with silly hat from my mother-in-law, of course!  hope everyone had a very merry christmas!  just enjoying the rest of my (now) sunnier california vacation & glad to be missing out on the massive snowstorm i’m hearing about back east.  yikes!

of note for my christmas outfit, i’ve weirdly taken to wearing this old rodarte & target collab t-shirt under other sleeveless shirts/dresses as it kind of gives me that japanese tattoo sleeve effect.  don’t know why i like it for now (or maybe i do know…hello, adam levine) ^_^  also, my jewelry (sans my husband’s gma’s tassel pendant) i got from my blogger buddy, naomi, who moved to NYC & she was selling a lot of her clothing to make room.  shop a fashion stylist’s closet???  heck yeah!

*navy sheer & gold for an indian wedding*

wearing: see by chloe sheer dress ($5 filene’s basement GOOB score!) || h&m gold dress (swapped) || n.y.l.a gold/mesh ankle booties (similar)

oh wow…looksie!  a regular ol’ outfit post.  FINALLY!  hahaha!  it’s been a crazy month, so i’m grateful for this very lazy, yet still busy & fun 4-day thanksgiving holiday weekend.  MDH & i didn’t go to my in-laws in PA as we typically do for thanksgiving as we had our friends’ wedding to attend here in boston.  our friends are indian & i wish i had ended up getting a traditional sari to wear, but i was also happy with the appropriately festive & sufficiently gilded outfit i ended up putting together :)

accessories:  aldo outlet earrings || asos ankle cuffs || express gold coins belt (from high school!) || ebay acrylic clutch || vintage mink stole

*green, gold, oxblood & fur*

wearing: vintage oscar by OdlR oxblood blazer || h&m green skater dress || express fur collar (old) || lori’s shoes capsule collection bamma

i felt my life has been such a whirlwind as of late.  this weekend in particular which i will detail in my next post.  for now, i just want to finally post the *wonderful* pictures that smita took of me during an impromptu shoot on the MFA steps after we previewed the mario testino: in your face & british royal portraits exhibits.

since it was such a fun & fashiony event, i brought out this old fur collar that i’ve had for years.  i fashioned it more into a necklace type of accessory instead of actually attaching it to my coats or jackets.  that way, even when i take off my outer layer, i still have the fur around my neck to keep it warm :)

accessories: vintage tassel gold necklace || thrifted avon red jeweled pendant necklace || melody ehsani armor-dillo ring || F21 spiked ring

i’ve also been taking advantage of the fall weather & really indulging in rich, baroque type jewelry…plenty of gold & ruby red jewel tones.  even my jacket has a slight metallic sheen to the burgundy fabric.

as i said in my previous post, it really was a fun day & i don’t usually get to spend so much time all at once with my blogger friends at a day time event.  plus, smita is my most favorite boston area photographer…both on a personal & professional level.  having her make me look this good again was an extra special time :)

*still in love with safari*

it’s one thing to go all in with the safari look, however…not just leopard print, but actual leopards on the belt (and elephants too)??? well, it’s a dull & dreary monday…so let’s just pile it on, shall we?

wearing: vintage safari-style tent dress || target watch || gold leopard & elephant belts via lady luxe || shoemint leopard print “jolly” wedges

i have a great friend who does my nails. i usually never ask for anything fancier than a plain ol’ manicure, but when i saw the nails from the jason wu fall 2011 show, i wanted to recreate it. of course, i should have photographed it *before* i spent 7 hours chinese lion dancing yesterday & tearing up my nails from shredding oranges & lettuce while holding the lion & getting pelted with firecrackers. i’m a dum-dum.
